Fortunately no Uncle Jack in my family. Plenty of booze fueled poker games and with loads of racisit and sexist banter. Learned to gamble and drink heavily at a young age, while developing coping mechanisms. Good life lessons early on of what not to do. Thankfully I found the rooms of al-anon and made some much needed changes in myself. Stopped the cycle while my daughter was still at home. Thank you for sharing this story!

Holy toots. I look forward to learning more about the coping mechanisms. 🙃

My coping mechanisms may show up in comments from time to time. Happily they aren't needed any longer. All family's have some kind of Uncle Jack to contend with. May we all learn how to deal with it/him in a healthy way, so we can still enjoy our time with family!

Our phone was attached to the wall. Uncle Al tried pinching me, demanding I lift my shirt. My mom screamed at him to stop. She did one thing right. Fun times.

Chris, it wasn't as bad as the pastor who would drop by uninvited to convert my parents. He was just showing kindness when he would insist that I sit on his lap. I was in elementary school. Luckily I had a good sense of ewww and didn't do it. More than once this happened.

Yikes. Hate to say, but these people often hide in religious organizations. Ugh.
