Chris Andrews: There are two friends I have had for 30 years that I back away from. We used to be drinking buddies. But they are neo-Fascist, and I don't care about their feelings anymore.
But, as you point out, that is not enough.
As a little person, all I can do is support a major civil rights organization that will take the fight to Orange-Mussolini's ANGRY RED FACE.
Kudos to Governor Janet T. Mills of Maine who stood up to the Orange-Mussolini TO HIS FACE TODAY, and he became excited, defense and red-faced. Too bad, Little Mussolini.
One thing I’ve noticed when I visit with maga supporters. They are not very happy people in a general sense, and seem to want to spread their misery around to others. When I try to guide the conversation away from politics, it almost always drifts back into the discussion.
Spot on with this. These are miserable people, just like their leader. I think if they had even one day of happiness and sunshine, they would see all of this very differently. Hard to be hateful when you're enjoying your life.
I would add to your list of things to do: if you don't know how to fight - LEARN. Join a dojo or boxing club. Get fit. Work out every day. Take care of your body. Buy a weapon. Train with it. DO NOT STOP FIGHTING.
I agree 100%. I'm going to work this in. It is something I've been thinking of almost daily. Never thought I'd be doing this, but this is where we are at.
Wow.wow.wow! That photo of Melanazia looks like a duplicitous female Nazi character right out of in an Indian Jones movie. Ice-cold-killer. And thanks you for the "what to do tips" I will do all of that and send it to friends.
Love you, friend! Will be reading the survival guide. Only good thing about social media and engaging in it is seeing who you can trust and who you cannot trust. I'm in the trench with you- ready for battle. Your writing is one of my sanity savers. Thanks so much 😊
I’m with you in spirit and am engaging in all sorts of activities to protect and defend the rights of all who live here whether documented or not. However I do not believe all Republicans are Maga Republicans, nor do they all support the trumpmuskvance regime. Promoting hatred of others is a risky business. Hate the ideas, hate the behavior, resist the evil. Promote kindness, support the less fortunate, be an example of what ideals this country was founded upon. And try not to let dread overtake you. That’s the hard part.
So happy to hear you are engaging on behalf of the marginalized people now under attack. It is heartbreaking. Your support of them is so important.
Sadly, voting for Republicans means exactly what you describe... "promoting the hatred of others." And the behavior and ideas expressed by all who voted Republican this election (even the supposed non-MAGAs), IS the person, in my opinion. As Maya Angelou said: "They've shown you who they are, believe them."
The GOP could not have been more clear in this election. Those who went ahead and voted for Trump after witnessing all of the horrible things he has done and said — I have not one small ounce of sympathy for them. Not one. And I hope others join me in that.
These people heard repeatedly what was said, and they went along with it. That is evil. I don't believe for a second that shunning people who do these things is evil. They've made their (bad) choice, and that is their cross to bear. Solely.
Sadly, we must fight fire with fire at this point - being nice to those who stubbornly persist in supporting the GOP and Christian Nationalism - that tactic has been a major FAIL. Using logic - major FAIL. Appealing to their conscience - major FAIL. Showing them the facts - major FAIL.
In my opinion, all who voted for Trump must be shunned. When they decide to finally join forces with people who care and are kind, then we let them in VERY cautiously. Like we did with Liz Cheney, Adam Kinzinger, George Conway, etc.
Just as the Nazis had to be shunned, Republicans need to be shunned. Not letting dread overtake me. Just going to take action — on behalf of my children, who will likely spend the rest of their lives dealing with this mess.
I hope others continue to join me. I'm so glad you are in the trenches. We could not have a better person.
I agree with you. Have not had any republikkkans in my life since forever. Grew up with them, and their polite manner didn't hide their hatred. It's just out in the open in places where it was once quieter.
If you really listen to people like Cheney, you still hear the part where others just have to solve their own damn problems. Small government is a dog whistle. Yes, she did a good job on the January 6th committee. She should have. It was the job.
Disagreeing with tRump doesn't make a good republikkkan. There aren't any.
Totally agree that disagreeing with he-who-shall-not-be-named doesn't mean you're cool. And a Cheney is a Cheney after all is said and done, right? Dick was certainly not on my list of people I respect. He's a nasty piece of work, and yeah, Liz is probably cut from the same cloth. 😬
Ignorance is no excuse for them, but I think many Republicans are horrified. My aim is to get them to join us in turning the tide. Starting with raising hell with their representatives in Congress. That’s our greatest hope. That and the lower courts. Yesterday I wrote to Wisconsin voters where on April 1st there’s an election for state supreme court. If the Democrat wins that’s a victory, however small, for the good guys.
I LOVED the Survival Guide you attached. I’m spreading the word. Yay!

I’d rather die fighting now than regretting I didn’t in 20 years.

Ice cold. Good description of Melania. Evil woman.
Good newsletter Chris. Thanks.
