In reality, this of course is not a "new era" of male privilege but simply a step back of many years for some girls and women who had achieved some minor improvement in their status and opportunity.
That any woman voted for Trump is a constant mystery to me and I can only assume that they either hate themselves or their own sex as well as having no interest or care about what happens to their sisters.
The reality is also that this "new era", if such it can be called will actually be one of privilege for Trump and his favourites, for billionaires and the wealthy, for bigots and bullies, and for hypocrisy and lies run riot.
The vast majority of men and women, including virtually all those deluded enough to have voted for him, will suffer as a direct consequence of the election of this man of obscene character and an ego so inflated that he actually thinks that he knows not only many things but many things 'better than anyone else', despite it being quite obvious that what he knows is little to nothing when it comes to ethical, moral, honest, equitable and positive management and care for a nation with already lost credibility but holding military might that get it quickly into a scenario of disaster from which it will likely never recover.
The sad fact is that human beings are easily misled, deluded and conditioned and so for those already feeling the pain of inequity and having little understanding of the need for checks and balances and at least some semblance of decency in government, it is not all that surprising that many have fallen into line, believed the hyperbole and won't realise their mistake until the wheels start to wobble before finally falling off and the cart falling into the ditch.
I would say, "God help us", except that over 70 years or studying religions and their role in society I have found not one shred of evidence to suggest even the remotest notion of some such omnipotent creature. Indeed, that notion is as bizarrely contrary to all evidence as that Trump is somehow fit to be President of the United States.
Now there's a great post — yours. I agree with you on all. Every bit. I think the biggest downfall in our country and the world is religion. Pretty sure religion is why so many women voted against their own best interest. Religions are for the most part cults and they are expert at preparing people, who as you point out are "easily misled, deluded and conditioned," to accept, without question, a leader like Trump. If we are to avert this horrible backsliding, we must start by pulling apart these cults.
Chris Andrews: This misogyny, a real sickness . . .
As a man who has loved Nancy 53-years (51 married) and has two daughters and a granddaughter, and whose very being has been formed from my Mom's influence, it is so natural to love a woman and love one's woman friends.
These are the most treasured persons in my life.
I get along and converse much easier in the presence of women friends, generally, than most men (with some brotherly exceptions).
This sickness baffles me and I find it creepy and ugly.
This is an AMAZING piece and I'm exhaling a 4-letter word slowly. A vote for ANY republican is a middle-finger to women, all women, of any age, in any condition and anywhere. I'm sick and so thoroughly disgusted with my gender. I'm looking for ideas --what can be done?
Good question and one I am working on diligently. I will be sending thoughts on this soon. Thanks for reading my pieces Charlie (may I call you this?).

Frank Zappa said the only in difference between a religion and a cult is the amount of real estate they own.
Oh yeah. Real estate in heaven? (😂)
