The Trouble With Becerra
Turns out California Dems are as blindly loyal to a fav candidate as their archenemies are to Trump
I have said it before and will continue to do so: VOTE NO ON XAVIER BECERRA for California’s governor.
The New York Times has reiterated and bolstered its stance on Becerra's troubling past as Secretary of Health and Human Services under the Biden administration. BECERRA'S POLICIES HURT CHILDREN. Biden gets to take credit for this, too. He turned a blind eye to Becerra’s poor leadership.
If you give a shit about kids, take five minutes to read today’s article. Then, VOTE NO ON BECERRA.
Sadly, I have discovered this week how very many Dems in the State of California have not one concern about the 10's of thousands of children Becerra's HHS put in harm's way. I am ashamed that this is where we are at. I am ashamed of my party. I am ashamed of people who play the racism card and who refuse to look at facts. Disgusted.
Here's a small taste of what I'm talking about in terms of what happened to Becerra's charges, the unaccompanied minors that came through HHS (from “Why the Migrant Child Crisis Is Roiling the California Governor Race,” by Hannah Dreier):
"Andrés Toma, 16, fell to his death three months after being sent to live with an uncle. Antoni Padilla, 15, lost the ability to speak after falling from a roofing job. Marcos Cux, released by H.H.S. at age 13, was working at a chicken plant when a machine tore open his arm. When I met him, it hung limply by his side. It’s unclear whether these children received H.H.S. follow-up calls, or whether a call would have mattered."
"Children and parents both consistently told me they had not imagined how dangerous the work would be, or how relentless."
"Child workers were mostly living adult lives, expected to contribute to rent and pay off debts, allowed to go to school only after working night shifts, or not allowed to go at all. In other words, the kind of situations H.H.S. was supposed to screen out."
"Some sponsors told me they believed that they were doing children a favor by helping them migrate and support their families. But many also kept careful tallies of what the children owed, including for their clothes, meals and lodging, and charged monthly interest."
Under Mr. Becerra’s leadership, HHS quickly released these children they were TASKED WITH PROTECTING, made a cursory follow-up call (or not, as the case may be for 85,000), and then closed their files. They ignored calls and emails from people who raised concerns. Becerra's concern: to please Biden by being efficient. For those of you claiming "misinformation," really? Take two minutes and read up. Becerra is your guy, my fellow Dems? Really?
Well, fuck that.
