Thoughts and Prayers Worth Reflection
Leave it to a female bishop to have the courage to say what needed saying
The Right Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington D.C., delivered this sermon at the Service of Prayer for the Nation at the Washington National Cathedral on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
Rev. Budde spoke directly to Trump, who sat in the front row with Melania, and next to J.D. Vance and his wife, Usha. She took this opportunity to say what needed saying and directly to the people who needed to hear it. It is deeply touching.
It is sad to imagine that her words likely fell on deaf ears.
Thank you for posting that. I went to the People's March on Saturday in the City where the spirit of the people was 100% in agreement with the words of the bishop. So far, today, after reading Heather Cox Richardson, I think the message fell on deaf ears. Heartless and cruel, not to mention evil, are the words to describe the spirit of the new regime.
Chris Andrews: Be merciful to those scared, the little people, the immigrant workers.
These are words that need to be heard.
The Right Reverend Mariann Edgar Budde: I will follow her closely from now on.
I love the Bishop's spirituality, based on God's mercy and the dignity and inherent goodness of each human person.
