Thanks for this fresh appreciation of The Three Stooges. I spent some of my 70s childhood watching The Three Stooges shorts and films, but I was never that entertained by slapstick. I enjoyed Lucille Ball's physical comedy and loved Mel Brooks' genius, but The Three Stooges were a bit over the top for me. As I matured, I segmented comedy into two categories: George Carlin vs The Three Stooges. Thus, reading your article gave me a new appreciation for what they were doing. I still don't know if I find them funny, but I'm always grateful to learn more about the details and devices utilized by an artist because it, of course, widens my horizons about artistic history and possibilities.
