Wow, Such a good piece and simultaneously so hard to read in its hard hitting truths. Great punchy writing and historical parallels and satire this piece really has it all. Yeah the Gatsby party was just another one of those things you scratch your head and go wha-huh? In line with the conversation you had with @rainbowroxy I think the French people were *forced" into the low road and simply did not have any other resources for redress of their grievances. At a certain point all talk just becomes futile. High minded speech from liberals is viewed as weakness by MAGA and further laughable talking points for methane coffee hours. The way I see it is the left is actually on two roads now: a High Road (standing up for healthcare and food and against racism sexism etcetera) But I think the left has finally realized we need a 2-Road approach. The addition of a Low Road, I have to say, sadly, is essential -- at some point you just have to punch people in the face ridicule them and humiliate them And literally if it comes way down to it you have to key their (metaphorical) cars and kick 'em in the nuts. With this bunch of GOP demons, we need both roads and I think (maybe) we're groping towards more travel on each -- knock on wood.
That's it, friend. Two roads. Yep. The high road is those working on the solutions needed to repair all this damage, the low road is for those in the trenches who have to fight off the MAGA scum. Saw Nuremberg last night at the movie theater (last time I went to a movie was about 10 years ago), and boy did it clarify some of these issues. Though sappy in parts, it was mostly well done. A deep dive into Göring and his part in the Nuremberg Trials. Fascinating and a hundred parallels to what is going on in the U.S.
I didn't know about the film I will definitely check that out. The choice of Russell Crowe though seems a little off? to me because he looks like a big teddy bear now while Goring always had this very dead eyes. But Russell almost always delivers the goods so I will definitely check it out!

Saltonstall and Nelson Rockefeller: Good, liberal. I could be a Republican in days when the Party was diverse and included liberals such as Saltonstall, Rockefeller and, let's not forget, Jacob Javits.

Believe me, the days were in that sense better when one could in good conscience vote for members of each of the two parties.
Having only one of the two major parties stick up for Democratic values makes for a very unstable Republic that tilts towards Caesar.

I had the same trepidation about Crowe. He nails it. Oscar worthy. Chilling portrayal of Göring.
There’s some seriously dark stuff in this film (real footage). Just be prepared. It’s haunting.
