Some people don’t get it. They are incapable of empathy. Entitled. Spoiled. Arrogant. Selfish. Sanctimonious. They get what they want. They receive what they need. They have their way. Having. Receiving. Getting. These words are not part of everyone’s vocabulary. Understood: all needs met, desires realized, wants satisfied, no privilege refused. The spoils of god’s chosen: justified. Implied: all others in the world are god’s forsaken. Ignoring pain and suffering: justified. The word “no" is unthinkable for god's chosen. Constitutional rights trampled. Persecution. Witch hunt. Stolen election. The reaction will be justified. Rage. Violence. Stealing. Taking. Gaslighting. Hating. Condemning. All of it god’s will. Supposedly. The leaders of the GOP. The theodicy of the religious right in all its permutations. Their god has his reasons for allowing the existence of moral and physical evil. This is the directive for the GOP's platform. Indisputedly. Imagine 48% of the United States population buying into this ideology. Imagine the GOP.
The Intersection of Right & Wrong; Turn Left
38 days until the November 8 election, the most consequential election in our country’s history.
Here’s what needs doing: • get all people voting • encourage fence-sitters to consider ramifications of voting GOP • factually dismantle lies posted daily on GOP social media • talk calmly, logically, factually to family and friends on issues of importance • remain positive and kind while advocating for Democratic candidates and causes • don’t engage in faux arguments; cheerfully decline • wear the swag, put out the signs, do the bumper stickers, display confidence • reach out and show support for those the GOP would disenfranchise: LGBTQ, immigrants, minorities, young adults, teachers, blue-collar workers, women, non-Christians, overseas voters, social workers, medical professionals, etc.
WHAT TO DO
Volunteer for voter registration booths and call lines, strike up conversations, respond to social media posts from opposing candidates with short factual retorts, be present at political gatherings and marches, provide financial support to down-ticket candidates, display messages in your yard, on your person and on your car, send out personal postcards, emails and texts. Donate. Be there. Do a thing.
The Simple Appeal To Be Made
When talking with family, neighbors, and friends, keep the appeal simple, and positive:
Emphasize that “all” includes: children, older adults, the poor, those medically challenged, single mothers and fathers, the mentally ill, the homeless, those with addiction issues, victims of gun violence, those abused or abandoned, and those marginalized by society.
VOTE BEYOND YOURSELF. VOTE UNSELFISHLY.
Appeal To People's Best Nature; Encourage & Model Compassion
• Espouse self-sacrifice; share the wealth.
• Help those around you; give to those in need.
• Take responsibility for those in your community; pick up slack where needed.
• Promote respect, love, honesty, compassion, and forgiveness.

Chris Andrews: You state it all so very well here, with the picture of the hand reaching out of the water, as if to call, "Help!" to rescue the person from drowning. And at the very beginning, the description of the "entitled" with letters spelling out an acronym particularly appropriate to that lot!
Very good, not least including the pun with the acronym!
You have the right spirit coupled with excellent wit and a gift with language. Touché!
I've given way more than in any previous presidential election. I'll be making calls with Center for Common Ground starting tomorrow (Saturday) night.
And I have on my car what was probably the first Harris bumper sticker in the whole country. I home-made it the day after President Biden passed the torch. I love Biden--best pres of my lifetime, which began the first summer of the Eisenhower Administration. But I knew that the Democratic presidential campaign needed a shot in the arm, and almost as soon as the torch was passed, I felt that boost like when the rocket takes off.
The bumper sticker is just two pieces of paper, one with the first 3 letters, and the other with the second three letters printed huge by my computer, scotch-taped together, and the whole thing scotch-taped to the rear bumper of my Civic. Nonetheless, it's made it through at least one wicked rainstorm, intact, and looking no worse for the wear!
Chris, if you want to see it, and perhaps even display it, just tell me where to email the photo! You can email me at holzmandc@gmail.com
